Ya-Yin Ensemble to do “Madame Han” opera

After the popular opera “Matchmaker” in February, the Ya-yin Ensemble will again present Chinese opera fans with “Madame Han” between Aug. 15 and 18 at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.The classic “Matchmaker” will be rerun on Aug. 19 in response to viewers’ calls.The Ya-yin Ensemble was launched in 1979 by Miss Kuo Hsiao-chuang, a Chinese opera pioneer who tries very hard to cultivate the unique Chinese heritage to the young generation. Popularity among youngsters proves her efforts worked. The latest program will be this year’s second attempt after nearly six months of rest.The play is based on the story of historic heroine Liang Hung-yu. In addition to Kuo, the 11-act play will convene a galaxy of opera giants such as Tsao Fu-yung, Yeh Fu-jung and Chien-hung.After winding up the Taipei series, the Ya-yin Ensemble will make its debut voyage to Taichung and Kaohsiung where they will perform on Aug. 22 at the Chunghsing Hall and on Aug. 25 at the Chung Cheng Cultural Center. Each show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
