Artistic changes for Cloud Gate Ensemble

The Cloud Gate Ensemble will introduce certain changes during its three-day performance from April 28 to 30 at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall to commemorate the anniversary of the death of playwright Yu Ta-kang.

This year, the ensemble will break with tradition by introducing a new system of lighting which enables the stage to have a broader dimensions, contrasting with the former white lighting, said a spokesman for the group.

A black curtain will also be used to replace the yellow or red curtain. Color slides of Chinese landscapes may be projected on the background of the stage in order to increase the feeling of reality, the spokesman disclosed.

Meanwhile, noted opera singer Kuo Hsiao-chuang will take part in the opera performance organized by the ensemble. In an opera entitled The Yu Sister of The Red Chamber performance on April 29, Kuo will play the roles of both sisters and in another opera “Wang Hui Deserts Kuei Ying” to be shown the following day, she will play the role of Kuei Ying.
